Small wood engraving, 2 1/4 x 2 3/4 inches on sheet 5 1/8 x 5 1/2 inches, SIGNED BY ARTIST in pencil at lower right, adhered to scrap paper at corners. Toning to print area, fine indented line to sheet entering image area (without ink removal); overall very good condition. A charming and accomplished portrait of a fat little bird, titled and signed in pencil. Mabel McKibbin Farmer (1903 - 1956) was born in Portland, Oregon, and attended Reed College before transferring to Stanford University, where she attained two degrees in graphic art. After Farmer and her husband Edward McNeil Farmer settled in California, she taught art to Palo Alto high schoolers while he taught art at Stanford University. Her print "Story Hour" is in the collection of the Carnegie Museum of Art, and her papers are in the collection of the University of Minnesota. Item #56924
