Circa early 1900s.
Hardbound scrapbook, unpaginated (48 double-sided sheets), cards and advertising images of various sizes (mostly chromolithographic) pasted to all but five pages, 11 1/2 x 9 inches, decorative debossed cloth covers with gilt. Covers faded, rubbing to cover extremities, hinges cracked and binding shaken, discoloration from glue to interior pages, offsetting to some pages, some rubbing to cards, long tear to one page next to pasted cards. The collector had an interest in holidays, birds and flowers, stately homes, and general whimsy. There are Christmas, New Year, Valentine, Easter and birthday cards, and trade cards advertise businesses including Brooklyn Tea & Coffee Store, Hecker's Flour, Kellogg's Toasted Corn Flakes, Duke of Durham Smoking Tobacco, and more. The collection appears to have been assembled over many years, with photographic images appearing in the second half. Few cards have dates, but those that do bear copyrights of 1879, 1900, 1913 and 1915. An attractive array of highly decorative images, documenting the changing times. Item #56901
