SIX engravings on laid paper, handcolored, 10 x 8 1/2 inches (plate mark) on sheets 12 1/2 x 9 inches. Light scattered foxing and light marks, pencil inscriptions to left upper margin; overall very good condition. Finely engraved and colored images by French artist Francois-Nicolas Martinet, produced for an edition of Buffon's Historie Naturelle Generale et Particuliere (Plates 183, 329, 332, 582, 583, 890). These images were also published as Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux. Several are on watermarked paper (D & M?); two others on paper with a different watermark. Item #56847
