Wiesen Sumpfhuhn, et al. GROUP OF 38 HANDCOLORED BIRD LITHOGRAPHS.
[Germany]. No date. [ 1846?].
Group of 38 lithographs of birds with original handcolor and occasional gum arabic highlights, on sheets approx 13 3/4 x 9 3/4 inches, text in German. Eight sheets have significant condition issues including dampstaining to edges, short edge tears, soiling, and some pencil inscriptions (see ibis detail image); the remaining 30 are in overall very good condition with light edgewear and occasional light foxing and edge toning. A lot of 38 sheets from an unknown German ornithological publication of the mid 19th century, possibly published in installments -- some sheets have more texture and larger writing. The birds are pictured three or four to a sheet, sometimes with additional details, for example an offspring or detail of a body part. The lithographic plates are finely rendered with attractive handcolor. The perfect gift for the Wingspan enthusiast. Item #56834
