Lithograph with handcolor, image area approx 15 x 11 1/2 inches on sheet 19 x 14 inches. Light toning to edges, light soiling to lower right corner (outside image area) and at upper left (just above image area), soft circular creasing at lower left and right, several faint spots of foxing; good condition. An attractive image of a wild rhododendron at the forefront of a mountainous landscape. This was the first plate from "The rhododendrons of Sikkim-Himalaya : being an account, botanical and geographical, of the rhododendrons recently discovered in the mountains of eastern Himalaya, from drawings and descriptions made on the spot, during a government botanical mission to that country" by the botanist and eventual Kew Gardens director Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker.
