Many interesting articles covering the difficulties of the Second World War -- exiled governments in London, Navy planning, air transport, and so on. Includes "War and Peace and the Patent System" with a full page black and white pictorial map, and "Walt Disney: Great Teacher" about Disney war films. Extensive period advertising, with every company managing to relate its product to the war effort. Attractive cover image of a propeller by George Giusti.
Founded by Henry Luce (who had, with partner Briton Hadden, founded Time magazine in 1923), Luce declared of Fortune magazine that "American business has importance - even majesty - so the magazine in which we are able to interpret it will look and feel important - even majestic."
