TWO lithographs with original handcolor and gum arabic highlights, sheet size approx 12 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Archivally repaired tears up to 1 1/4 inches to each print, outside image area; tiny chips to corners and along lower right edge of Sparrow Hawk print; light toning; a few tiny spots; overall very good condition. Richly colored prints of highly charismatic birds by two skilled artists. Johannes Gerardus Keulemans and Joseph Smit were Dutch artists who lived and worked in England. A Sore Sparrow Hawk, subtitled Accipiter Nisus, is Keulemans's work for "Ornithological Miscellany", published in London between 1875 and 1878. Limnaetus Philippensis (Philippine Hawk Eagle) is Smit's work and is plate XXIV from Vol. 9 of "Transactions of the Zoological Society of London", published between1875 and 1877. Item #56582
