Happylad Shirts. "For the Boy of Character".
Circa 1920s.
Color pictorial EMPTY cardboard box, 16 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 2 inches. Pencil mark at upper right, rubbing to extremities with some paper loss; overall very good condition. The box lid depicts a group of boys playing baseball in their natty shirts. This is a charming bit of historical ephemera of the kind that is rarely preserved -- as A. Hyatt Major observed, "Anybody can buy a Whistler etching, but try to find a Victorian matchbox". The box used to hold a size 13 1/2 boy's shirt made from "Genuine Peter Pan Fabric - guaranteed fast colors". The perfect gift for the baseball enthusiast who has everything...except this possibly one of a kind illustration. Item #56558
