Anderson, Anne; Alan Wright (authors and illustrators).
[Edinburgh]. Thomas Nelson & Sons. No date. Circa 1910s.
Hardbound children;s book, 12 color plates, unpaginated, 8 3/4 x 6 1/2 inches, tipped-on color pictorial cover image. Slight wrinkling to cloth binding; rubbing to extremities; light soiling to front cover; narrow strip of paint to back cover; 1918 ink inscription to front free endpaper; blue crayon markings to most plates (worst affected, cricket, is pictured); markings mostly not very noticeable; overall good condition. The two bold sportsmen are Bobby Jenkins, who has just gone into knickerbockers, and his adorable dog Tinker Bell. The book follows their adventures month by month: cricket in July, football in October, pretending to run with the hounds in November - a very English childhood! The insciption indicates that the book was given as a birthday present in 1918. The only WorldCat holding is the British Library in London.
Anne Anderson and Alan Wright were a married couple who collaborated on illustrations. They are best known for children's book illustrations in the art nouveau style.
