Children's picture book in pictorial covers, 16 full-page and 4 double-page color wood engravings with gilt, various pagings (24 pages total), 10 3/4 x 9 1/4 inches, cloth-covered boards with decorative debossed cover with gilt. Covers faded with rubbing to extremities, missing lower half of spine. Interior in very good condition with light foxing to first few pages, occasional smudges to margins, printing accident at lower left of one plate (see photo); illustrations bright and richly colored. A quartet of Bible stories for children from the 1870s, published anonymously (the author was Laura Valentine) and illustrated in the style of rich stained glass windows by Scottish architect and designer John Moyr Smith. "Printed in color and gold by DALZIELS." Only three library listings in the United States. Item #56514
