TWO ITEMS: Norway Fights!, publication promoting Norway's role in anti-German resistance, photo illustrated in black and white in pictorial wrappers as issued, 32 pages, 12 x 9 inches, staple binding. Light soiling and creasing to covers, dampstaining to front cover, 1 3/4 inch patch of abrasions to back cover; interior in good clean condition. Norge: Natur og Folkeliv, collection of images of Norwegian land and people, photo illustrated in black and white with color pictorial cover, unpaginated (44 pages), 10 1/2 x 14 1/4 inches, paper covers with cloth spine. Covers in fair condition: foxing to back cover, multiple edge tears and chipping to upper edge of back cover, covers and title page fully detached from text block, tears and paper loss to title page as a result of detachment, 8 inch split to spine. Dampstaining to margins of first page, text block in good condition overall. Published in the United States by Hans Olav, Tor Myklebost and Trygve M. Ager, the intention of Norway Fights! seems to be to convince Americans of Norway's fighting spirit. It features images of training camps in Great Britain, high-ranking officers, U-Boat chasers, and the royal family in exile, as well as a map showing Norwegian military hotspots all over the world.
Norge: Nature og Folkeliv was published in 1911, back when Oslo was still called Kristiania. It promotes a more peaceful pre-war Norway, a land of mountaineers, small villages nestled in fjords, and stoic fishermen. Text is in Norwegian, English and German. Item #56509
