Bullock, L. G. (mapmaker).
Edinburgh. John Bartholomew & Son Ltd., Circa 1960s.
Large color pictorial map, 37 1/4 x 25 inches on sheet 39 1/4 x 27 inches folding as issued to 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches, cloth backing. Scattered foxing to verso and a few spots to margins, discoloration visible along outer left margin, light abrasions and a few creases to bottommost left and right panels; very good condition overall. The brightly colored decorative map depicts the towns and roads of England and Wales, with famous battle sites, castles, abbeys and so on marked out. Vignettes feature historical figures and types, i. e. "a Cromwellian soldier, A.D. 1643", and are accompanied by quotations from Shakepeare's plays. The decorative border is composed of heraldic badges of Welsh and English cities. With its combination of history, artistry and literature, this map is a valuable teaching resource. Item #56386
