O'Malley, Power (cover illus). Coles Phillips (color ad).
New York. Life Publishing Co., 04-11- 1912.
Single issue of the magazine which was previously bound, color pictorial covers and one color advertisement, black and white illustrations throughout, pagination 747-790, 11 x 9 inches. Binding holes to spine, text block detached from covers and some pages detached (but all present), very slight creasing to fore edge at top and bottom; very good condition overall, clean and bright. This is the original version of the social commentary and entertainment magazine Life, not the news photo magazine first issued in November 1936. Much of interest including centrefold cartoon "Frieze for a Bachelor's Apartment" showing the perils of marriage. The famous suffragist Pankhurst family merits a mention in the Intimate Interviews section: "The Pankhursts have been exceedingly mischievous, and very bad indeed for some families that have had the bad luck to come under their pestilent influence." Advertisements include Overland, Stoddard-Dayton and Packard automobiles, as well as color "Onyx" Hosiery ad by Coles Phillips. The color cover by Power O'Malley "When a man's single he lives at his ease" shows a man comfortably sewing at a beachside hut, his parrot keeping watch. Item #56293
