A mixed lot collection of color views of the towns of Dover and Chester, England, contained in stiff card folder designed as a book, 7 1/4 x 4 3/4 inches. Contents as follows: one double page sheet 4 1/8 x 13 inches with color view of "Dover and Admiralty Pier from Shakespear's Cliff" and four other color views of Dover; one double page sheet 4 1/8 x 13 inches of "The City of Chester from the Opposite Side of the River Showing the Celebrated Race Course" and eight other single page views. With the double sheets, this represents likely 16 of the 32 "gems" originally included. Box has considerable wear, the interior top edge is missing. Two of the color prints have additional penciled text beneath the image. The double page color view of Chester has a signature and the date June 1873 on the verso, suggesting that it may not actually belong with this series (plus some pencil on blank verso). There is also a 16 page "Descriptive Letterpress - Views of Dover." An assorted lot, but with several attractive views of these major British destinations. ALSO INCLUDED are five only color views (OF TWELVE called for) of "Loch Lomond and its Scenery" with the "Nelsons' Pictorial Guide-Books for Tourists" wrapper and 24 page guide book Sold as is. The spine of the "book" states "Premium with The People's Illustrated Fireside Magazine 32 Gems." Item #56270
