New York. Staats-Zeitung und Harold. 05 - 09 - 1943.
Section D of the May 9, 1943 Sunday edition of the New York-based German-language newspaper "Staats-Zeitung und Harold", 28 pages, 16 1/2 x 11 inches bound in textured paper-covered boards 17 x 11 1/2 inches. Horizontal tear (up to 1 1/4 inch) to right edge of first three sheets, toning to sheet edges; overall very good clean condition. The newspaper has been well protected by its cover. The feature "Directory to the World of German-American Associations" opens with an acknowledgement that the war has complicated the existence of these organizations - some suspended for its duration, others losing half their membership to the armed forces. The following pages are occupied by long lists of all kinds of East Coast associations, from singing groups to women's groups to sports clubs to political parties. Of great interest to any historian of German-American history. Item #55987
