Athens, Greece. No publisher. No date.
Folded map of Athens unfolding to a colorful sheet 16 1/4 x 17 inches. Index in the map's lower right corner lists 30 different sites within the city; numerals on the map corresponding to those in the Index (see for instance the National Gallery (21) and the Stadium (16). The Index listings are in three parts: Monuments, Museums, Contemporary Buildings. What is most striking about the map is the pattern made by streets and avenues, which are identified in small black letters. There is no single dominant grid; rather, there are dozens of grids, each with an individualized configuration. The map is undated, and the title "Athens" is not present. The text in the Index is in English. An unusual item - the abstract configuration of roads and avenues has a hypnotic effect on the viewer.... Uncommon - and captivating. Light wear to extremities, pinhole separations at fold intersections; overall very good condition. Item #55838
