Hader, Berta and Elmer (illus).
Color map, 9 x 12 inches. Overall very good condition. An engaging 1932 picture map created by the renowned artists Elmer and Berta Hader and published in the children's geography "Berta and Elmer Hader's Picture Book of the States." This original vintage map provides a 1930s era view of the people, places, history and activities characteristic of the two states. The linked careers of the Haders can be studied on Wikipedia in an essay that documents the enthusiasm of Nobel prize-winning novelist John Steinbeck for the Hader's work, leading to commissions for three book jackets including the iconic image employed on "The Grapes of Wrath." The pictorial map depicts indigenous persons and places, rendering them in a bold cartoon style with the vibrant high-quality color printing of the 1930s. Printed text on verso (not relating to this map), not visible on the map side. Item #55770
