Map, uncolored, 17 1/2 x 13 inches on sheet size 22 x 12 inches, folding as issued. Overall light toning, 2 inch split to top fold end, lower left edge unevenly trimmed, good condition. An interesting map showing the progression of the surveying of the territory which was begun in 1851 by then Surveyor General John Preston. Rudimentary elevation markings are shown and many ranges identified by name. The progression of the land surveys, essential to the granting of land claims, are identified: "Townships surveyed are without mark. do. under contract are marked O. do. proposed to be surveyed >. do. in which the surveys of private land claims are completed (colored) c."
