Honolulu, Hawaii. Hawaii Tourist Bureau. Circa 1936-1938?
Folded brochure 8 x 5 1/4 inches featuring an image the Hawaiian Islands on the cover, with Oahu distinguished by red coloration. The brochure unfolds to a sheet 16 x 20 3/4 that depicts a map of the island with mountainous regions indicated pictorially and text providing information useful to tourists. Brochure includes a "short auto tour" which lists destinations of certain interest to tourists and also travel information to the western section of Oahu that can only be made by rail. No WorldCat listing for this item has been found. An uncommon ephemeral Hawaii tourist brochure. Light foxing to covers, pinhole separations to fold intersections; overall very good clean condition. A 1930s Census Report provides a population figure of 202,877 for Oahu. The "Crossroads" brochure offers a population figure of 210, 610. The population increase suggests a mid-30s date of publication. (There is also a photo in the brochure of Nuuanu Pali, a state wayside offering panoramic views, that features a parked automobile of certain 30s vintage.). Item #55381
