Boston. Maine Central Railroad / Boston and Maine Railroad. Note date. Circa late 1940s?
Engaging color brochure unfolding to a surprising 4 x 38 inches depicting, on one side, the interior of the Boston and Maine Railroad's new "light-weight alloy steel" cars "sheathed with stainless steel." One side features the train interior (lounge, bar, dining area, coach area with reclining seats) while the other depicts the train's exterior, looking in at tiny heads. Two cars are shown, one named Merrymeeting and the other Bobolink. Text states "each of the new cars bears an individual name and the name of the Northern New England grammar school pupil who suggested it." Further text states the railroad expended $2,000,000 "for these new super-deluxe cars." A flap at one end depicts a stork in train conductor uniform with text reading: "Presenting Our New Babies - Twelve Sets of Twins." On verso, a map of the service between Boston and Bangor and points in-between. An engaging piece of railroad ephemera in very good clean condition. Item #55357
