Honolulu, Hawaii. Hawaii Promotion Committee. No date. Circa 1910.
Scarce booklet, 16 pages including front and rear pictorial covers, 6 x 9 inches when unfolded to black and white frontispiece map of the islands. Map provides diagrams showing both routes of steamers and railroads, also Pacific cables. Text and six russet-colored maps (Hawaii, Maui, Lanai, Molokai, Oahu, Kauai) provide information useful to tourists or settlers to the islands. Other illustrations focus on various volcanos or scenic attractions. One photo illustration contains an image of an open (possibly steam powered) automobile, suggesting a circa 1910 date of publication. Reference is made in the booklet to the census of 1900; a population of 154.000 is cited - presumably a total for all six islands, although that possibility remains somewhat unclear. There are several very modest pencil notations in the booklet in what Google believes to be Romanian. Booklet overall in very good clean condition. WorldCat shows only three library holdings: Berkeley, Oberlin, and Harvard. An uncommon and fascinating vintage publication. Item #55312
