Color map, 20 x 16 1/4 inches on sheet size 23 1/2 x 17 1/2 inches, published in the Chicago Daily Tribune newspaper January 8, 1942. Folded horizontally and vertically, very good condition.. "This is a new color map of Alaska...showing its nearness to Asiatic Russia,just across the narrow Bering strait. Since Alaska is closer to Japan than is the United States proper, and thus may figure prominently in the war in the Pacific, readers are advised to retain this map for future reference." The inset map at lower right shows the extent of the Aleutian Islands. This map was issued less than two months after the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. Item #55275
