London. Illustrated London News and Sketch, Inc., 10-17- 1868.
Illustrated weekly newspaper, 16 x 11 inches, 16 pp. plus 8 pp. Supplement. Much attention is given to the Revolution in Spain and the Campaign on the "Punjaub Frontier." However, tucked into a half page of the newspaper (plus a column of descriptive text in the Supplement) is a black and white illustration approximately 11 ½ x 17 inches of the "Court-House, San Jose, California." In appearance the Court House is an impressive building, with little evidence of other buildings close at hand. Text relates the building is 115 feet in height (to "Top of the Dome") with other detailed specifics regarding its construction (e.g. the Dome is reached by a flight of 172 steps). An uncommon item relating to California history. Very good clean condition. The pictorial image and companion text are unusual documents of historical interest regarding 19th century California.
