Articles include: "Paper & Power" about I.P. & P., "The Times and The Times and Their Times" about the London Times and the New York Times, "Gold, Metal and Money", "The Vanderbilts" with full page color family tree illustration, "Cheap & Smart" about Macy's, and an article about wine with a one column color map by Ernest Clegg of the Bordeaux wine region (with pictographs of buildings). Full page color advertisement a pictorial map by Ruth Taylor White of the Hawaiian Islands, with cartouche advertising a copy of the map free on application to the Hawaii Tourist Bureau. Full page color Fokker F-32 plane ad. Striking logging-themed cover by Buehr. Founded by Henry Luce (who had, with partner Briton Hadden, founded Time magazine in 1923), Luce declared of Fortune magazine that "American business has importance - even majesty - so the magazine in which we are able to interpret it will look and feel important - even majestic."
