Three color plates plus color pictorial title page, profusely illustrated throughout with black and white full page and in-text illustrations, pages numbered 2 to 719, index, 11 x 9 inches, cloth-covered boards with color pictorial cover label and decorative design to cover and spine. Slight wear to cover label and a very few tiny spots to covers, previous owner's book label to front paste-down, small smudge mark to upper right corner of first three pages and to first color plate; section of two sheets is loose from binding. Overall unusual in its very good, tight and clean condition with very attractive covers. HEAVY VOLUME that will require extra postage for other than media mail within the U.S. A particularly interesting volume with articles on women in the workplace: "Women and Munition Work. A Survey of Conditions and the Actual Work they are Performing," "Women and the Land," and "A Jubilee of Medical Women...the inauguration early in October by the Queen, of the great extensions of the London School of Medicine for Women will mark a jubilee in connection with the opening of the profession to the sex...." There are several illustrations by Louis Wain in the second number of the volume: two vignette images illustrating "The Wonderful Gift," three vignette images illustrating "The Bane of Bribes and Commissions," two vignette images illustrating "The Price" and a single page "Studies of Cats From Louis Wain's Sketch-Book." The shadow of World War I is evident throughout the volume, such as the Seasonal Cooking sections eg. November - Geese, Hares and Rabbits - Cooking Hares and Rabbits. Item #54972
