New York. F. Ray Comstock & Morris Gest. 1917.
Theatre program for the sumptuous New York City production of "Chu Chin Cho" by Oscar Asche, which followed the hugely successful London production the year prior. The play, based on Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, featured the author Oscar Asche in a leading role. Program is 12 x 9 inches, 36 pp., with 10 full-page color plates featuring lavishly costumed characters from the play, plus a double-page color centerfold. In addition to the color plates, the program features 21 pages recounting the story of the play. Very good clean condition. A block-buster from a century ago. Also included with the program is double-sided sheet 9 ½ x 5 ½ inches providing details of the production in its four day (six performances) sojourn in Portland, Oregon: list of members of the cast, the "story of the play" in one paragraph, list of musical numbers, "synopsis of scenes," etc. In sum, the sheet provides everything that is missing from the glossy souvenir program with splashy color pictures.
