Aglaeactis Cupreipennis. [ANTIQUE BIRD PRINT]
Gould, John and H.C. Richter (drawn and lithographed).
No date. 1849- 1861.
Lithograph with handcolor and gum arabic highlights. Toning to sheet but image is bright and clean, 1/4 inch tear to right edge well outside the image. This original nineteenth century lithograph is a particularly beautiful example of the use of gum arabic highlights on the backs of the two hummingbirds yielding an exquisite gradation of color and shine. From John Gould's A Monograph of the Trochilidae or Family of Humming Birds, published between 1849 and 1861. Item #54605
