New York. Army Information Branch. 1945.
Volume IV, No. 10 B. Poster, color map, sheet 35 x 47 inches, folded to 9 x 12 inches as issued; light scattered foxing; approximately 3 inch separation at centre of top fold from wear to poster edges when folded. Short split at one edge fold. This is the single sided edition of Volume IV, No. 10 with just the 'B' side image (the 'F' side when issued as a double-sided poster is titled "Jap-Facts" with information on the Japanese fighting forces and the American war effort.) This is a full sheet color map of Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia with the two theatres of war marked: Liberated Areas since 7 Dec 41; Enemy Held Areas 8 May 45; and the battlelines at various dates from 7 Dec 41 to 8 May 45. Issued just a few weeks before the Japanese surrender on August 15, it aimed to keep up the American patriotic spirit with the exhortation at the bottom of the map: "KEEP THIS MAP ALIVE ... Don't let it become just a wall decoration ... add your own phase lines, shade in the enemy areas taken daily until V-J Day." A powerful image. Item #54564
