Text of Part III in the newspaper's series gives focus to the slums of New York and is titled "At the 'Five Points,'" a continuation of reportage that began in Part II focusing on the crime-ridden slum on the lower East Side. Text reports that "At almost every passage-way leading to these abodes of misery and crime, we find the upper half of the door open, and looking from within, a bevy of girls, whose countenances betray the several grades of their positions in prostitution....'Come in sports!' is the continual salutation to the passers-by."
