"Torquay from Park Hill" and "Torquay from the Sea".
Salter, J. (illus).
Torquay, England. The Torquay Pictorial (Torquay Directory Newspaper and General Printing Company, Inc.). No date. Ca. 1889.
Two large folded panoramic views, wood-engravings on sheet size 14 x 37 inches titled "Torquay from Park Hill" and, beneath, "Torquay from the Sea." The folded panels, once tipped-in to the Torquay Pictorial, are in excellent clean condition, and were evidently removed from the magazine as a keepsake. The views are signed "J. Salter," an artist of the period associated with views of Torquay. Commenting on the art work "The Bristh Printer" (Volume 3, March-April, 1890, p. 25) writes: "A special feature consists of two panoramic views of the town and the sea front, extending across four full pages. Upwards of £600 has been spent on the production of The Torquay Pictorial, and the first edition of 3000 was, we learn, sold out in a few days." Uncommon and sharply defined black and white engravings, bright and clean. Item #54350
