New York. G. W. Dillingham Company. 1911.
Hardcover volume, 7 ¾ x 5 inches, 347 pp. The "novelization" of Walter's scandalous 1909 New York theatre sensation directed by David Belasco and starring Frances Starr. The story concerns an aspiring actress who, succumbing to the blandishments of an older man, destroys the possibility of happiness with the man she truly loves. The volume is illustrated with 7 photographs credited to Archie Gunn and Joseph Byron which focus on key moments in the eroding fortunes of Walter's protagonist, Laura Murdock. Murdock is identified by the author(s) as "the type of woman of easy virtue who is sometimes seen behind the footlights and helps to give the theatre a bad name." The volume is in excellent clean condition. Item #53985
