New York. Samuel French. No date. Ca. 1890.
Play script in paper wraps, 7 ½ x 4 ½ inches, 56 pp. Title page states "a tragedy in five acts with Stage Directions, Cast of Characters, Costumes, &c. as played at the Park Theatre by Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Kean. Taken from the Acting Edition marked by C. Kean, Esq." Very good clean condition. "The Gamester" was first performed at Drury Lane in 1753, while the cast list for the Kean production states "As performed at the Park Theatre 1845." On verso of title page is a brief description of costumes and also an explanation of entrances and exits and "relative positions" while inverted commas indicate portions of the text "usually omitted in the representation." Overall, a useful text documenting various aspects of mid-19th century play production. Item #53885
