Bath, England. The Spa Committee of the Corporation of the City of Bath. 1939.
5th Edition. A 33 pp brochure and folded map housed in stiff paper covers 9 x 6 inches and bearing the title "Historic Map of Bath." When unfolded, the color map ("Prepared by T. Sturge Cotterell") measures 25 x 16 1/2 inches; it is printed on stiff parchment-like paper. Text at the bottom states "5th edition. Corrected to 1939." On the map, 241 different sites in Bath are indicated with numerals in red; text in the pamphlet provides details relating to each site. Corners of stiff paper covers are bumped, soiling to back cover, ink notations inside front cover, light scattered foxing to verso of map (not visible from front); overall very good condition. The present booklet, the fifth edition, has predecessors dating to the 19th century; these evidently differ in format. Text on the title page of this edition states the map indicates "the sites of public buildings and residences of famous personages connected with the history of the city." A most attractive map of the city, with copious historical details. Item #53605
