Copper plate engraved map with original handcolor IN FOUR SHEETS. Each sheet measures 23 x 28 inches, the map area on each sheet 18 1/2 x 22 3/4 inches. These sheets are not backed or joined but have been loosely attached with a leather tie through two punched holes in the left margin 1 inch outside the left neat line. When joined the map area would measure 37 x 45 1/2 inches. Light creasing and light to moderate toning to sheets, small spill mark in lower margin of what would be the lower left sheet of the complete map, printer's crease in first sheet, pencilled number in upper right margin of each sheet. Overall good to very good condition, and unusual in this state with no trimming to the paper edges. Title continues: Les Provinces de Bessarabie, de Bulgarie, et de Romanie, avec une grande Partie de L'etat de Pologne. A beautifully engraved map with much detail of the Balkan peninsula and adjacent areas. The Russo-Turkish War of 1768–1774 was one of a series of wars waged on territory claimed by the Ottoman Empire. Item #53575
