Folded brochure promoting Durban with color cartoon map, 15 1/4 x 21 inches, as centerpiece. The map features recreational opportunities in the city on the Indian Ocean with race tracks, botanic gardens, golf courses, Durban University and country clubs located in the immediate vicinity of the city. Also pictured is the "Chesterfield Native Township" and the comparable "Reservoir Hills," home to many of Durban's black citizens. The map chiefly features the activities of the city's white citizenry; racist cartoons of the African citizenry are the norm. Brochure and map in very good clean condition save for "x" in ink and near inscription "my school.". When folded, eight color "post card" style views of the city are featured, plus several blank lines for a hastily written note. Text boasts of a "city of contrasts, where "Oriental and Native Markets lie in the shadow of 'skyscraper stores.'" An uncommon item; no WorldCat listings. Item #53562
