Volume LXXXIII. Three-quarter leather bound volume, 16.25 x 11 inches; 648 pp. plus 48 pp. Holiday Number. Tightly bound with bumped corners. Tipped in centerfolds. Many issues state: "Foreign Postage" next to masthead on front page. Damp ripple across bottom margin of Holiday Number, evidently occurring prior to binding. Titles include "On Board an Opium Hulk at Shanghai," "Examining and Packing Chinese Manufactured Rifles--Shanghai," "War Preparations in China--The Arsenal Shanghai." Also, a double page group of illustrations that feature, centrally, "Saigon, the French Settlement"; full title: "Sketches of Tonquin and Lower Annam, Cochin China." Top corners torn from pages 137/8 (impinging slightly on text), 139/40, and 529/30; 3 inch tears with paper loss to margins of pages 613-616. Pages 539-542 completely detached; pages 589-591 bound slightly out of order. A few sections appear to have never been bound in: pages 363-366, 441-448, 453-460, and 465-472. Overall very good clean condition. Additional illustrated articles of interest include a series on the Fishing Industry in England; Sketches in the Soudan; the Tower of London; the Suez Canal and additional Egyptian material; two double-page views of cathedrals (Gloucester and Hereford); Scotland Yard; the GPO First Day Parcels Post and many more illustrated articles including Cider making and Water Polo.
