Price's Candles. CANDLES - TRADE.

Price's Candles.

Liverpool, England. Price's Candles Ltd., No date. Ca. 1880.
Ephemeral advertising card, 5 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches, featuring an image of three candles with text reading: "Hold up to the light." A notched wheel on the right side of the card can easily be turned with one finger, allowing a bright flame to appear on the candles--or disappear. When held to the light, the candles produce a rosy glow. Light crease to lower right corner; overall very good condition. A good-natured gift for those whose electrical service has been terminated for non-payment. On their website Price's Candles Ltd., which began manufacturing in 1830, writes: "Price's have a long and close association with the Royal Family...; today it holds a Royal Warrant for Her Majesty the Queen [and] supplies candles for many Royal State occasions."
