Chicago. Spiegel's House Furnishing Company. 1905.
Twenty-six page staple-bound catalogue (including covers), 6 x 8 3/4 inches, offering a variety of home furnishings. Front page states "Goods shipped on installment credit to any section of the United States." At the top of the interior pages is the slogan "We trust the people everywhere." Items offered include davenports, leather upholstered rockers, dining room ensembles, tables, stoves, etc. Corner of bottom free edge of catalogue bumped; one inch tear to front cover. The items in the catalogue are uniformly priced in the following manner, using a china closet as an example: cash down payment of $2.75; monthly payments of $1.50; freight not included. Not mentioned is the number of monthly payments involved, although a Wikipedia article states: "Spiegel was the only company at that time that did not charge for credit." An uncommon vintage publication from a pioneer firm offering mail order credit payment, of considerable interest in connection with the firm's merchandising history. Good condition, with issues noted. Item #52807
