Full page wood engraving, in complete issue Harper's Weekly magazine from September 27, 1873, image 9 1/4 x 14 inches on sheet size 11 1/2 x 16 3/4 inches. This issue was never bound in a volume, but has been sewn together at the spine resulting in four small holes in the centrefold illustration (not affecting the Homer image). Light toning to front cover, supplement unopened. The Homer image is in very good condition; light wear and a couple of tiny tears to edges of sheet at least 3/4 inch outside the image. The prominent late 19th century American artist Winslow Homer worked as an illustrator for Harper's Weekly and other illustrated journals from the 1850s to the mid 1870s, his designs being rendered as wood-engravings. Issue also includes centerfold illustration "Taking the Reins - A Familiar Scene in Central Park" and full page engraved portrait of Richard Wagner. Item #52448
