Beirut. Commissariat au Tourisme. No date. Ca. 1955.
Pamphlet 7 3/4 x 4 inches that opens to four panels with text on both sides. There are short paragraphs on the history of Lebanon, its area and population, and a list of historical sites in Mt. Lebanon, Northern and Southern Lebanon, and Bekaa. The cover of the pamphlet is an attractive map showing Tripoli to the north and Tyr (Tyre) to the south. The population is given as 1,500,000. £1 (Sterling) = approximately 8.90 L. P. It is likely the pamphlet dates from the mid-1950s, although there is no acknowledgement of Ben-Gurion's 1948 declaration of the establishment of the Jewish State of Israel. Text in the pamphlet states "Lebanon is an independent Republic since 1943" and declares its borders are "the Palestine frontier on the south to the Nahr el Kebir...on the North." Population figures suggest a circa 1955 date of publication. Pamphlet in very good clean condition, with a particularly attractive map of the country on the cover. Item #51910
