Set of two small volumes as issued, black and white illustrations and calligraphy throughout, 43+56 pages, 6 x 3 3/4 inches, Japanese stab binding with cover title labels. Binding thread is starting to come loose, spot to one cover, light soiling and soft creasing to covers, interior very good. Hine Taizan 日根 対山 (1813-1869) was a 文人画家 (Bunjingaka), an intellectual figure celebrated for his landscape paintings at the end of the Edo period. Engaging illustrations in the Chinese style, many featuring a single figure in a landscape. The volumes fit neatly into the hand or pocket, something one could carry at all times to evoke a sense of the peace of nature and man's small place in it. Item #51892
