Woodblock frontispiece and one full page woodblock print, in-text woodblock images throughout, 7 x 4 3/4 inches (18 x 12 cm), color paper wrappers with title label, oriental style stab binding. Some fading to front cover, small insect hole in back cover, interior in very good condition. An English-Japanese dictionary relating to business and trade, published early in the Meiji era. The vocabulary ranges from place names to ship terminology to products (including wine and alcohol) . The last three words are locust, flea and gnat. An interesting glimpse of trading life as Japan opened its trade with the West. Item #51629
