No date. Ca. 1950s.
Three items of 1950s ephemera: 1) "Perth Western Australia" (West Australian Newspapers Ltd. Periodicals Division. Circa 1952). Magazine format publication in paper covers; 9.5 x 7 inches; 28 pp. Illustrated with photos, descriptive text, and map. The photos are numbered and are discussed in brief paragraphs at the back of the booklet. 2) "Visitors' Guide to Perth and Suburbs" (Government Tourist and Publicity Bureau; 1952 Issue). Booklet 6.75 x 4.5 inches; 38 pp. Illustrated with photos, descriptive text, and map. The booklet provides a brief history of Perth, its climate, an annotated map and an illustrated compendium of attractions. 3) "Pictorial Souvenir Perth, W.A." (Murray Views, Gympie, Q. Circa 1952). 20 black and white views in a double-sided accordion-format presentation; paper wraps designed for mailing; 4 x 6 inches. The Guide and Pictorial Souvenir suffer abrasions on the rear panel, evidently occasioned by their removal from a tourist's scrapbook. Otherwise, each item is in very good, clean condition. The three items offer a distinctive image of Perth as it existed in the middle of the last century, providing a pictorial contrast between the city's Victorian architecture and "modernist" mid-century buildings. Overall, an absorbing collection of vintage ephemera. Item #51487
