Brisbane, Australia. The Brisbane City Council. 1947.
Booklet in paper covers; 36 pp; 11 x 10 inches. The heavily illustrated booklet aims at presenting to the public the "Vacational, Commercial, Social, and Political" aspects of the capital city. Attractive photographs dominate the presentation, while the last three pages present General Information and Statistics pertaining to the city, including Goods Exported From the Port of Brisbane During the Year Ending June 1946. These include meats, wool, butter, cheese, raw sugar. The last page provides a listing of various industries and the number of factories in Brisbane associated with each. The booklet's aim is evidently attracting more business, industry, educational and commercial endeavors to Queensland and the capital city. The Interpretation of the Arms of the City published at the front of the book translates the city's Latin motto as "We Aim At Higher Things." A fascinating post-war record of the city as it sets itself on a determined pathway to economic growth.
