The artist is Hermann Bollmann of Braunschweig, Germany... Since 1948 he has drawn thirty-nine similar maps of European cities. For this map of New York his staff has designed and built special cameras. They have taken 67,000 individual photographs of the City, 17,000 of these from the air...And in this age of automation, Bollmann's cameras are his only compromise with the present. All the actual drawing is done by hand." The map is a work of art, with buildings drawn with great accuracy and named. On the verso is a color road map of New York City. The booklet contains a double page illustration of the "first known bird's-eye-view map of the fabulous metropolis that we know today as New York City" together with much information about the city in six languages.
