Ellis, Wm. (engraved by).
London. William Miller. Print dated 1804. Paper watermark 1815.
Aquatint engraving, handcolored, sheet size 14 x 10 inches. Light indentation at upper edge of sheet from vintage paperclip and text sheet adhered to verso by two small (1/2 inch) squares of adhesive residue at upper corners - neither affecting the image area in any way - overall very good, clean and bright condition with foxed spot to lower right edge (well outside image). Wonderful tone and color to this image of woman, "corset made of violet silk, laced close before, and trimmed with a broad yellow band", plate number 47 from "Picturesque representations of the dress and manners of the Austrians" by William Alexander. The sheet of descriptive text gives information on the region and costume traditions (two-sided sheet with text in English and French). Item #50837
