Poole, Wm. (engraved by).
London. William Miller. Print dated 1804. Paper watermark 1815.
Aquatint engraving, handcolored, sheet size 14 x 10 inches. Light indentation at upper edge of sheet from vintage paperclip and two small (1/2 inch) squares of adhesive residue at upper corners on verso of sheet - neither affecting the image area in any way - overall very good, clean and bright condition. Wonderful tone and color to this image of Moravian man, "their mouth veiled by their beard, which they suffer to grow on the upper lip", plate number 41 from "Picturesque representations of the dress and manners of the Austrians" by William Alexander. The sheet of descriptive text (reproduced in facsimile) gives information on the region and costume traditions. Item #50835
