Ellis, Wm. (engraved by).
London. William Miller. Print dated 1804. Paper watermark 1815.
Aquatint engraving, handcolored, sheet size 14 x 10 inches. Light indentation at upper edge of sheet from vintage paperclip and two small (1/2 inch) squares of adhesive residue at upper corners on verso of sheet - neither affecting the image area in any way - overall very good, clean and bright condition with small foxed spot to mid upper margin. Wonderful tone and color to this image of "a young peasant...resting himself on a rock overgrown with grass", plate number 4 from "Picturesque representations of the dress and manners of the Austrians" by William Alexander. The sheet of descriptive text gives information on the region and costume traditions (two-sided sheet with text in English and French). Item #50831
