Two-color bird's eye view pictorial / pictographic map, sheet 16 1/4 x 21 inches, illustrations and text on verso, folding to pamphlet 9 1/2 x 3 3/4 inches. Very light stain to lower corner of back cover not affecting interior, map in very good condition. A bird's eye view style map illustration "A Pictorial Map of Palo Alto and the San Francisco Peninsula" is bordered by vignette photo-illustrations of buildings and places in the vicinity, such as Modern Business District, Stanford University from the Air, "Typical Palo Alto Homes". Palo Alto Yacht Harbor. The map locates Palo Alto and Stanford University, Burlingame, San Mateo, Redwood City, Santa Clara and San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley with illustrations of buildings. Elegant script on the verso promotes the area, with its perfect climate. Several versions of this pamphlet were issued over a period of years from the 1920s through the 1950s. The early editions featured illustrations by Arthur Lites in the map border. In the illustration at lower right of this edition a prop plane is depicted, suggesting a circa 1950 date. Item #50368
