A revised edition of the 1896 Monongahela River Coal Region map published by C.T. Rainey. Linen-backed map, 48 inches by 26 inches folding into brown cloth boards 8.75 x 5 inches. Damp staining to margins of map chiefly visible on verso of map. Three very small areas of paper loss at center of map where horizontal and vertical fold lines intersect. The colored lithographic outlines denoting coal regions and ownership details remain remarkably clear and vivid. An attractive and detailed map depicting the coal regions bordering the Monongahela River in Western Pennsylvania. The map depicts ownership and boundary details using five-color lithographic outlining, starting at the West Virginia border in the south and terminating at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers at Pittsburg in the North. A highly-detailed and uncommon map (six listed in WorldCat) in very good condition, with issues noted. Item #50095
